School started for me only yesterday, but I feel like I've already slipped into my old routine. I don't even miss my summer holidays unless I think about them. This may be kind of sad to say out loud, but school has been in my life for so long now that it even gives me certain amount of comfort and a feeling of purpose.
It's not so much that I love school as just that I always try to look at the brightest side of things. This is what keeps me motivated.
I realize today's outfit is not very "back to school". Nonetheless, if you swapped the cross-body bag for a backpack, it would be something completely appropriate to wear to class, unless you think knee slits are not formal enough, hehe. These are of the "neat" kind, the ones where they're just a minimalist straight cut in the middle, not the distressed ones, so you have nothing to worry about. If anything, they make skinny jeans even better for school, since we all know the knee slits trend started because they are just so much more comfortable. If you live in skinny jeans like me you know the difference!
Black on black on black is a combination really hard to mess up. Even so, I never said you can't make it better. When working with monochrome outfits, a really good tip is to mix textures. For example here I wore a gray/black pattern top (which is actually labeled to be sportswear, but I'm too cool to follow labels), and lace-up flats, which in themselves are also a kind of a pattern. An additional pattern comes from the chain of the cross-body, but it isn't the highlight of it. What is unusual is that the bag is brown *gasp*. Isn't that something you're not supposed to do - pair black with brown?
I own plenty of black handbags, but none of them would have made this outfit an interesting or even just a stylish one. They would all just have lost their shape in the void of blackness that is this look. I think adding an unexpected color like this is something that really shows the maturity of your outfit-creating skills. Try it next time!
With school starting I always wonder how much time I'll have to create a next post. Assignments and tests can literally jump out of nowhere at any time and casually seep into my mind yelling at me to give them more attention. I try to post once a week and to be regular with it, so if everything with school is at peace, you should be hearing from me soon again!
