Guess whose school year just finished! I know, I'm so late in saying this, but I've been waiting for my summer vacation for such a long time. Really, the only problem that I have with it coming so late is that everyone right now is talking about how terrified they are of going back to school, and it just makes my holidays feel so much shorter. But nonetheless, I'll get the last laugh when they start school and I'm still chilling at home for like another month!
Today's outfit consists of a dress that I just recently rediscovered in my closet, and a classic plait shirt. I feel like this dress is so much more my style now than when I bought it three years ago (I was most likely thirteen ugh). I've always loved color in my clothing and only just recently I've started to build a more sleek and monochromatic closet (all the shirts I packed for vacation are black haha). Gone are the days of collecting every shade and color of pants, gone are the days of matching my top color to my bottom one. I feel like I'm maturing, and as I always say, our style is a reflection of who we are. Fashion is in no way completely superficial. Even if you say you don't care about style, that also reflects in how you dress and how you dress is how people perceive you. What I want to say is, fashion always gives away something about us, before people even initiate contact with us. It is another way of communication, so use it wisely.
Now back to the dress - I was a bigger size back when I bought it, so it runs a little loose on me now, but that is nothing to worry about, since the black details on the sides give it a lot of structure and carve out a really nice body shape. My best solution for clothes that are too baggy is either to tuck them in, to wear something tight with them, or, for dresses, to pinch them at the waist using either a belt, or a shirt like I did here. The classic plaid shirt is so on trend right now, and you really can't go wrong with it. I've seen so many outfits with a tied one around the waist like this, although most of them were incorporating jeans and a plain tee. I love that idea, since you can be comfortable in your jeans all you want, but the shirt acts like a sort of skirt which flares and gives you a really nice hourglass shape. Best of both worlds I would say!
To be all matchy-matchy I decided to go with some red lipstick and red nail polish on my toes, just to incorporate the shirt a little more and not worry about it looking a little out of place.
Another cool thing this shirt does is that it gives texture to the outfit and it gives the eyes somewhere to look at initially (so that you make sure people notice your cool outfit!). An outfit without texture never excites the eye as much. If you really pay conscious attention to it, you will notice that the first thing our vision is attracted to is consistent textures or patterns!
To keep things badass I added my black leather sandals and, of course, my favorite leather backpack.
Now I'm off to see how to spend my summer holidays productively and I'll write again soon! Byee!
